PROJECT EXPERIENCE
From structural steel erection and complex rigging through to site modification, welding and plant installation, our project experience demonstrates the practical thinking behind Qoill Steel & Rigging.
Explore selected projects below to see how our team approaches access constraints, difficult lifts, programme demands and unexpected site conditions.
SENCOVA
Structural Steel Skid
Client: Powins
Structural steel erection & rigging
Two-person crew · 20t Franna · Weekend programme
Our team completed the erection of a galvanised structural steel skid for Powins as part of the Sencova project.
The complete structure was erected over a single weekend by a two-person crew using a 20t Franna crane and scissor lift. The works required coordinated crane movements, rigging, access and steel erection to progressively position and connect the structural components within the available programme.
SUPPLY HAUS
Internal Structural Steelwork
Builder: McNabb
Shed divider & internal office structures
Two-person crew · 20t Franna · Weekend programme
Our team worked collaboratively with another contractor to deliver a substantial structural steel package within the Supply Haus facility for McNab.
The works included erection of a large full-height structural divider extending across the warehouse, together with structural steelwork forming two complete internal office areas.
Working within the enclosed warehouse required access equipment, erection sequencing and installation activities to be coordinated around the existing building and other construction works.
SCOPE:
FULL-HEIGHT SHED DIVIDER
Large-scale internal framing across the warehouse.
TWO INTERNAL OFFICES
Structural steelwork forming two complete office areas.
COLLABORATIVE DELIVERY
Coordinated erection within an active enclosed construction environment.
REDLAND BAY
Structural Roof & Balcony Steelwork
Builder: JKR - In conjunction with Kracken Rigging
The project involved extensive structural roof framing and adjoining balcony steelwork, with installation challenges arising from imported steel and discrepancies between supplied components and actual site conditions.
Bracketry required significant modification and, in some instances, remanufacture to achieve the required connections. Existing blockwork was also out of alignment with the intended steel connections, requiring the installation to be adapted to suit actual site conditions.
The crew assessed the conditions, developed practical solutions and continued the erection works across the roof and balcony structures.
CSR Coopers Plains
Calsining Plant - Ductwork modification, rigging & installation
Builder: Richardson & Crookes Construction
Installation of 1200mm diameter process ducting incorporating multiple changes in direction across multiple axes. Individual sections required modification and complex development to achieve accurate compound angles and alignment with the surrounding plant.
With no crane used and little to no available head height, conventional lifting methods were not an option. Our team utilised the existing structural members with beam clamps, chain blocks and lever blocks to lift, rotate, adjust and manoeuvre the duct sections into position.
The restricted working envelope required careful thought at every stage, with rigging arrangements progressively adjusted as each section moved through the structure.
Brisbane Grammar School
Suspended Atrium Structures
Builder: Watpac
Structural assembly, welding, rigging & installation
Our team was involved in the assembly and installation of three suspended structural arrangements within the multi-level atrium.
Each arrangement incorporated three large circular bases suspended from the main roof structure on high-grade stainless steel cables.
Each base was supplied in two sections for site assembly. The sections were bolted through the central connection before two external circumference joints were welded to complete the structure.
The completed welds were subject to magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing, with all welds passing the required testing without defect.
